Last summer, in the days after a catastrophic wildfire in Maui, Hawaii, Lahaina’s historic banyan tree was rightly a focus of concern far beyond the island. When vandals cut down the legendary Sycamore Gap tree in Britain’s Northumberland National Park last fall, that too caused an international uproar. For us they had ceased to be a part of the nameless, inscrutable forest and become instead themselves. Enjoyed our stay in this charming home in Carmet. The deck and courtyard with wood burning fireplace were inviting. Nicely stocked kitchen with very nice appliances (for those who like to cook).

The Banyan House is named for the nearly 100 year old Banyan Tree that beautifully anchors this tropical oasis. The tree was a gift from Thomas Edison, a family friend of the home’s original owners, Robert & Dorothy Marvin. ” We were in desperate need of a relaxing getaway and this place was perfect for it. This sweet cottage looks just like the pictures. The TV was a little difficult to figure out, couldn't get local channels, had to use the Firestick to get any programming. If you're not familiar, like me, it was a learning experience. Also had some ants get into a container of baked goods on the counter and had to throw it away, so be aware. Had an issue with the smoke detector going off for no reason a few times the first day, but called the management company and they sent someone out to replace it immediately!
